About Big River Bakery

We are Big River Bakery based in Shieldfield – Newcastle and we believe we can change the world one loaf at a time but need your help.

We are a commercial bakery - shop - cafe and training space- but we do so much more.

We work in the wider community with local businesses, community and charities to deliver our social value into the community.

All projects are currently funded by ourselves and through the generosity of our customers. We are hoping to extend our services for 2023.

Our current projects for 2022/2023 include:

- Daily Breakfast Bags to local schools for children not able to access breakfast clubs

- Homeless welcome - we never turn anyone away from Big River Bakery and support many individuals by giving free food and hot drinks.

- Free food / pay as you feel days - offering free lunches on a weekly basis for all.

-Free kids baking activities in the holidays

Warm hub - 2023 - providing a warm safe and friendly place where people can meet over conversation, food and activities.

We run a baking themed employability programme for local people furthest from the job market and also provide employment for people with learning disabilities – such as autism. The funding for this has now ended but we hope that our crowdfunding efforts will help support this during 2023.
